Wonderful to me!!
Date: 2004-12-06 | Rating: 5
I purchased this particular oven approximately 3-4 months ago, and have had nothing but successful experiences with it. I did not read customer reviews prior to my purchase, and am glad that I did not, for my thinking would have been distorted. It has toasted and baked items beautifully, without problem. I am yet to have any problems with buttons, and am happy with the product. I would definitely purchase another one.

Nice

All of my toaster ovens have been black and decker so I can't say what others are like but I like it. It gets the job done, heats up quick and is very easy to use. It is also very easy to clean, I have had this toaster... years and it is working fine. The accessory pans however are made of a[n] [inexpensive] material that does not clean well.

has worked fine for me

Just thought I'd write a quick review defending the honor of this simple toaster. I've had mine for about four years. Mostly bread and bagels. I've never had a problem with it. Nothing's broken off and nothing buzzes. Maybe I've just been lucky?

Treat it right, and it will treat you right.
Date: 2003-02-12 | Rating: 5
I don't know what all the bad reviews are about! If you treat it well this toaster oven will be the most responsive, accurate and convenient appliance in your kitchen. I have had the predecessor model to this one for 10 years or more, and never had a problem with it until a friend dropped it on cement while I was moving. Even then, the only thing that broke was the hinge on the door! I sold my old one in a garage sale (still working), and replaced it with this new one. It's almost exactly the same, and I look forward to another 10 or more years with it.

What is all the guff about?
Date: 2004-03-14 | Rating: 5
I only bought this toaster a month ago but I think it is great. It is compact, yet big enough to bake plenty of food in, it warms up quick, and you can mount it under your cabinets to save counter-space. I am glad I did not review the reviews first. I bought it in the store and it was the cheapest one there! I just hope my toggle switch does not break.

No complaints so far
Date: 2006-04-15 | Rating: 5
Just got this yesterday. It was unbelievably inexpensive at the local mart. Like, half ;o) hint hint Seems to toast just fine. The "medium" toast setting did a good job on two slices of bread. I set it to "max" to toast a bagel, and I had to stop it early! Unlike my old B&D toaster, which took two cycles to toast a bagel... Probay not the most even of toasting (it has one quartz element on top and one on the bottom) but, again, it's not like you're spending $150 here. The toaster function has a timer that tick-tocks down to zero, and it's kind of loud, but that's the only bad feature. Well, except for the stupid crumb-tray. When is Black & Decker going to figure out that a slide-out crumb tray is a good thing? The way B&D does it, removing crumbs takes two people and needs to be done outside, lest you fling crumbs everywhere and drop the toaster to boot.... But hey, for dirt cheap, what'd you expect? Controls are simple. I think the unit's lines are clean and attractive. Oven works well; 450 really is about 450, and "broil" gets it up above 500. (I measured it with an oven thermometer.) Obviously I can't speak to durability. My old cheap B&D toaster oven (similar bottom-end model) absolutely refused to die. After 20 years I finally got tired of looking at it, so I got this one. If the new one only lasts 5 or 10 years, I'll be thrilled.

Wouldn't Use Anything Else

We have purchased many toaster ovens in our live, but th first and best we have always had are Black and Decker. They toast everything well. The shelves are in the right positions. No it's not perfect, but I wouldn't buy anything else.

i did not purchase this oven from amazon the seller backed out at the last minute, but i did get one from ebay. it does eveything i was told it would do xcept it has to be a small pizza the only size that will work. great item.

Nice new format on the B&D 4-Slice Toast-R& Broiler oven
Date: 2007-09-28 | Rating: 4
I like the new shape of the oven. The inside is more square, so it fits four slices much better than my old B&D four-toaster. Also now fits a round casserole. The inside is also higher - less chance of burning your hands. Three-prong plug. The three knobs are a bit confusing. You have to use the two top ones to get the oven/broiler to work. Other than that, I really like it. Princesschecki

I use it relentlessly...
Date: 2009-04-05 | Rating: 4
I don't understand all the bad reviews on this thing...I've owned mine for over 4 years and it's been GREAT! Aside from the handle slipping off, which was easily fixed by tightening the crimp I have had no problems. I love this thing and If mine were to die...I'd buy another!

Didn't last, annoying features
Date: 2007-07-03 | Rating: 2
Several annoying features; for some odd reason there is two different timers, one for the oven, the other for the toaster, with a third dial for temperature. Either timer can be turned on without the actual heating element being on. The timer is mechanical and loud and can be on even if the oven is unplugged. This toaster oven did not last, the temperature setting feature melted and no longer heated the elements within a very short time period (year+)

Too much Oven, Not enough Toaster
Date: 2009-02-26 | Rating: 2
This was a gift. I would have never purchased anything so big. I am waiting for the day that it dies. Based on the reviews, its death is not that far away. Way too much oven for our needs. If you want something that toasts quickly, this is the wrong choice. I have two little kids that eat a lot of waffles, english muffins etc. By time this is done toasting, they are usually on to something else. Not for people who need to move quickly in the morning. The oven is a potential fire hazard. First of all, the whole thing gets really hot. Even the handle?. That is why it is less than $50. They put no energy into designing this behemoth of a toaster oven. I am giving this a 2 for now, I may revisit when and if it falls apart within a year.

bad bad toaster...
Date: 2006-06-07 | Rating: 1
I got this toaster oven & have had a *few* problems with it... Problem #1: after cleaning the toaster oven the first time, almost all of the numbers and markings rubbed off Problem # 2: the door handle detached from the glass door within 2 weeks Problem #3: the toaster oven and the sides of the handle get quite hot (which, aside from posing a fire hazard, is a big deal when the handle falls off when you are checking on food--you have to put it back on...) Problem #4: there have been at least 2 fires inside the toaster Problem #5: the baking mechanism broke so I can only toast (the blue indicator light does not light up when the oven is on bake & the toaster does not bake) Problem #6: the toaster alternates between taking forever to toast a piece of toast and quickly burning it Problem #7: the toaster toasts unevenly (I flipped my bread over half way through the cycle to make sure the sides got toasted more evenly) Problem #8: the baking mechanism did not work if the timer was not off (the blue light will not even go on) Problem #9 (more of an annoyance): if your toaster is unplugged & you turn the toaster knob on, the toaster will make the toasting sound (so you come back thinking you will have toast but in fact, the oven was never on) Well, I just ordered a new toaster because it is *difficult* (to say the least) to use this toaster, seeing as it has no numbers, markings, baking mechanism, and has a hot handle that falls off... not to mention the little fires it starts and the fire hazard it obviously poses. I figure Black & Decker knows about the fire hazard because the door has instructions of what to do if there is a fire inside the toaster (it says to close the toaster door & unplug it... it omits the important step of turn toaster off before unplugging--all consumers need is also the threat of electricution when using this defective product). After just 3 or 4 months in my possesion, this Black & Decker toaster will be let to rest/thrown away (3-4 months after it should have been). Please do not donate this toaster to Goodwill or to the needy if (I mean, when) you have problems with it--throw it away, it's quite useless & a hazard.

Junk
Date: 2006-09-05 | Rating: 1
I actually have had 2 of these. The first one I had about a month, when the toast timer stopped functioning properly. It would not shut off by itself like it was supposed to. It would just keep toasting the bread until it was charcoal. I would have to stand by the machine the whole time it was toasting so I could turn it off manually and not have burnt toast. I called Black and Decker and they sent my a new oven after I sent them the cord off the broken machine. Well, the second machine lasted about a year and then the bottom heating eliments stopped working. I've owned many toaster ovens in my life, and none of them died after only a year. I have a Proctor Silex machine that is 25 years old and still works. It looks REALLY bad, but it works. I pull it out to use, when my current machines die, until I get out to purchase a new one. I will not be purchasing anymore Black and Decker appliances. I had one of their Home Cafe machines a couple years ago and it turned itself on and caught on fire (see my review).I think Black and Decker's quality has really gone down the tubes in recent years, to the point where their appliances are fire hazards. I will not take anymore chances with my family's safty!

love it!

I love it! My work place has the same model so this is what I wanted for Christmas. Needlesstosay, Santa came thru. I only had it for a couple of days, but the one at work has been almost a year with lots of users so I hope to have mine for a while. Easy to clean. Can't wait to use the convection feature.

Good - But not quite all I thought....
Date: 2010-02-08 | Rating: 4
I wanted digital because I imagined the ease of using a microwave in a toaster oven. I really like the oven but the digital controls are a little compiicated so I get lots of "time-outs" before I get it programmed. The digital display is unlit LCD and the numbers are "faint" so I had to put the oven in a different place than I wanted it just so I could see the timer. The bottom line: If you don't have slow reactions and failing eyesight, this is a great product!

Black & Decker Junk!
Date: 2009-11-06 | Rating: 1
I purchased a Black & Decker toaster oven Model CT06305, top-of-their line with electronic controls, thinking I would have a well-made oven that would work well and last for years without mechanical control failure setting the house on fire. Well, it did work well, when it worked. And it does not seem that it would set the house on fire. In fact, now it is stone-cold dead. If I unplug it overnight, it may come to life, but not long enough to fully toast bread before going comatose again. It was 5-stars rating in my book, until it just failed. Junk like this is not worth even one star! No more B & D products of any kind for me anymore!

Awful Controls
Date: 2009-12-19 | Rating: 1
The digital controls fail miserably. Normally you'd expect that when an oven has a timer on it, the oven should shut off after the specified time has elapsed, yes? Not with this piece of crap toaster oven from Black & Decker. The problem is the timer doesn't start counting down until the oven is fully preheated. So if you put your pizza in for 10 minutes at 425 degrees it may actually be in there for 15 minutes -- 5 minutes while the oven warms up and 10 more minutes at full temperature. It gets burned. Have no doubt about it, your food is being partially cooked during that warming up period, but the timer doesn't account for this. Now, a stickler may say that's not following the instructions. The instructions clearly say to wait for the oven to preheat before putting in the food. Well, I don't want to wait. That would defeat the purpose of having digital controls. I want to put my food in, press a button, then go watch TV. Plus, any time you stop and restart the oven, whether accidentally or as part of multi-step cooking instructions, this preheating issue *will* mess you up. With other ovens you can compensate for starting cold by simply adding a couple minutes to the bake time. With this oven you'd have to subtract time. This is counter-intuitive. If you forget, your food is burned as opposed to undercooked so you can't fix it later. Plus for reasons difficult to explain, the amount of time you'd have to subtract to compensate for the extra cooking done during the preheat cycle is much more unpredictable than the amount of time you'd have to add for a regular oven to make up for no preheating. The controls are hard to operate from an ergonomic standpoint as well. The rest of the oven functionality is okay, but why pay extra for an oven with digital controls if those controls work poorly? I can't speak to the reliability; I've only had it a few months.

Love this oven...
Date: 2009-12-05 | Rating: 5
I use this toaster daily, and even more often on weekends. Although toast isn't its strong point (it takes longer than a dedicated 2 slot toaster), it cooks most everything else with ease. It's great to not have to heat up your oven for a smaller meal, and this can easily handle a main course for my wife and I. With 4 elements, it heats very evenly (for a toaster oven) and the range of controls are plentiful. We have had ours since 11/04 and just recently the top knob stopped turning (it's stuck in the "toast" position which is where we use it most) I am going to buy another as I really like the design and functionality. Hopefully we'll have as much good luck with the second, as we had with the first.

Very nice oven, good features
Date: 2008-06-12 | Rating: 4
I've only had this oven about a week. So I can't review it's long lasting ability. But, the main reasons I bought this oven are important to me and maybe others. Most Important Feature: It has a timer feature which shuts the oven off when it reaches the time you set. So if you want it to run 10 minutes to warm something, and you leave the room and forget about the item, it will turn the oven off and not burn the item or your house down. We really need this feature in our house as many items have been forgotten over time and this feature in my last Black and Decker oven was essential and we had to have it again on any new oven we would buy. It's very large, so be sure you have room for it. But it's size is nice for two people to cook small dinners without having to run the large regular ovens. Can fit a 12" pizza. It has two bumpers on the back so it doesn't hit the wall when you put things in or adjust the knobs. And it has nice soft rubber feet so it doesn't scratch the counter top. Runs very hot so adjust the temp down about 50 degrees. Toasts well. Has a two position rack holder and an easily removed crumb tray. This is my third Black and Decker oven and both of my former ones lasted about 10 years. But for the price I paid for this one ($50), if it lasts even 5 I'll be happy.

I've had two and will not buy another
Date: 2010-01-25 | Rating: 3
It you remove the rating for durability, then the oven is great. We bought the first one and it lasted about three years. The current one at 18 months is dying. The top burner is out. We have two small children and it is used about once or twice a day for toast or a bagel. It should last longer. We had the stainless steel version of this model.

Good while markings last
Date: 2008-05-28 | Rating: 2
Love the product, while the markings lasted. Only had it about 9 months and all of the markings (temperature, time, toast level) have worn off rendering the product unusable. Have contacted B&D about the issue and they just continue to ask me for Model #, Date of Purchase and proof of purchase over and over again.

short life span
Date: 2008-04-11 | Rating: 2
We really liked this toaster oven while it lasted. Huge inside. Unfortunately it died after about 20 months.

GREAT toaster oven for the price!
Date: 2008-03-24 | Rating: 5
I'm totally happy with my purchase. The toaster oven replaced and old black and decker that still worked, just looked old - this unit looks great, cooks everything super fast with the fan on, and also has a time - which my old unit didn't. For under $50 i think it's a great deal and i would definitely recommend.

Toaster Convection Oven
Date: 2009-07-08 | Rating: 5
One hot July day, I had an epiphany. I was thinking, why do I keep firing up my entire gas oven for one or two small items? It makes my whole house hot, takes a long time to heat up, and I hate the broiler because it is on the bottom and I can't see in. I have never wanted a toaster oven and if I ever acquired one would just get rid of it, in the past. Anyway, I decided to go to the local store and check it out and saw that they had toaster convection ovens. How cool is that? They only had a couple of brands and being new to the thought, I decided to go home and research it on the internet. Initially I was going to get the Black and Decker but I didn't like the reviews about it getting so hot. I ended up deciding on a Cuisinart. So, off to the store I went. They had several brands and models set up so I could test the doors, the trays, the controls, etc. Immediately I knew I did not want the Cuisinart. It was $120 ish and looked awfully small. I really did not like the different aspects of the other brands and ended up liking the Black and Decker. The trays slid in and out easily and the controls were no-brainer. I wouldn't even have to read the manual probably. So, off to the house it goes. Walk in...unwrap.....plug in....check out in the manual what the timer does. The reason for the check-out was you have a choice. You can set the timer for a certain time up to 60 minutes or if you prefer to cook something longer or set your own kitchen timer or whatever, you can just set it to stay on. Basically the timer is the on/off switch. Anyway, I threw in some Morningstar Chicken Strips and 15 minutes later voila- done to perfection. LOVE IT! My husband and I checked out the warmth and determined it was not any different than the toaster or any other toaster oven type item would be. The sides were comfortable to the touch and so is the back. The top and front are hot. Well, hello, we used potholders just like we would with our regular oven which gets hot in the front. So, the next day my husband tried out making some melted cheese/ham sandwich with perfect results. And the next day I baked two chicken legs- just right. I can hear that the convection fan works but I have not really done much with it yet because I have never cooked with convection so that will be a later experiement. Anyway, we have only had it a week so I will post further updates if something changes, but so far LOVE IT!

Great Toast!!!

Makes great toast!!! Seems like a good one, esp for the price!!! Nice looking too!

Does everything a Toaster Oven should do.

I have had this item for a few months now and I like it a lot. Didn't spend a fortune on it so when it gets nasty looking or breaks I won't be too upset.

Works well, best value for money, looks good
Date: 2007-10-30 | Rating: 4
Being a big fan of toaster ovens and have used them since I was kid, this is a good one. I almost bought a Cuisinart toaster oven as they dominate the store shelves, but checking out all the toaster ovens on display, this was the best. The knobs did not feel cheap like the others did and had all the features I needed. Just the basics. I use mine mainly for re-heating or crisping pizzas, pastries and toasting bread. It has a great updated look, compared to my old beige Black and Decker. Altho the price is higher than the old one, it has many improved features, like the crumb tray that slides out completely for cleaning. My only (minor) issue with this oven is the handle. The black insulated handle is fine, but where it attaches to the glass door, it is metal and not insulated. So, if you grab the handle too fast and your fingers accidentally touch the metal when it is hot, you'll get burned.

I'm toasted
Date: 2003-02-24 | Rating: 5
Four screws into the bottom of your cabinets, and then slide the toaster in. Couldn't be simpler. The included template blows like they usually do though. Throw the instructions away. Just drill 4 holes in the right spot after a trial fit by hand.

It is just what I wanted. The rack supports the toaster oven under the cabinet, freeing up counterspace for other uses. It is easy to slide the toaster out for cleaning, if necessary. Serves exactly the purpose intended.

toaster oven under cabinet mount

I've had my toaster oven mounted under my cabinet for about 10 yrs now. I take it with me each time I move because I like it so much! To have it up off of the countertop makes a huge difference in space. This was a great idea. But you're really limited to the selection of toaster ovens.

does the job
Date: 2008-10-14 | Rating: 5
I didn't really have any choice if I wanted to free up very valuable counter space - this is the only toaster over with the hood, there are no other models, and it does the job fine. The toaster oven itself isn't that great, but, like I said, unless I want it to sit on the counter, I don't have a choice. Holds the toaster oven just fine, and doesn't heat up the cabinet it's attached to.

works great!
Date: 2007-03-11 | Rating: 4
This product works exactly the way we wanted. We've had no problems at all with heat on our wood cabinets and the toaster oven has stayed secure in it's holder. The only thing that I'm not crazy about is the appearance ove the product. It's kind of clunky looking. The model that works the with new B&D toaster ovens is much more attractive.

Great Product!
Date: 2008-06-11 | Rating: 5
This is a great product! I had a regular toaster oven which was only used for toast. Now I can no so much more with the Infrawave Oven. I baked cookies that turned out beautiful. The reheat feature is wonderful, makes leftovers as good as new!

Most used Appliance in the Kitchen
Date: 2008-11-11 | Rating: 5
We purchased this Infrawave oven about a week ago. I was skeptical, but hopeful, based on the user reviews that I read prior to purchase. When we took the oven out of the box, I sat down and read the instructions and perused the sample foods list for each of the settings. I have tried heating frozen chili, reheating cold Bolognese sauce, cooking frozen chicken tenders, french fries and pizza rolls, made toast, bagels, frozen pastries, baked homemade sausage rolls, heated garlic bread and roasted sweet potatoes and butternut squash. It performed each of these tasks perfectly! I have not turned on my "big" oven since we took this out of the box. It cooks all of the items listed in half the time, or less, than the traditional oven and there is NO preheating time. I am totally impressed. I have not found the tray difficult to clean, thus far. I do recommend that you read the directions and keep the cooking guide close at hand. I can't wait to get my electric bill at the end of the month and see the savings!! I am buying one of these for my parents for Christmas. It is FANTASTIC!

Works Well
Date: 2008-11-13 | Rating: 5
The free delivery was quick. When I lifted the oven out of the box, I broke the 10 inch plastic strip that was taped right behind it. I checked the book but couldn't find a part number for it. I think it's a heat shield for the handle? When I started it up the tray handle that I had laid on top of the unit started getting tacky from the heat. So, why am I not sending it back? Because I'm losing weight as we speak. Why am I giving it 5 stars? Because I'm on a low carb diet and this thing changes everything; namely, it works well, cleanup means rinsing the tray, no defrosting so I can buy cheaper frozen meats, and it's fast and easy. Ed

Exceptional second oven/toaster/microwave/broiler..you get it..
Date: 2009-02-12 | Rating: 5
I hope I can write this without insulting most of the people who gave it a bad review... If you bought this oven thinking it was going to be a "Magical Cooking Box", you were guaranteed to be disappointed. You won't fit whole turkeys in it, it won't make your hockeypuck biscuits fluffy, and it isn't so quick it makes your clocks run backwards when you use it. It is however, perfect for baking small items when you don't need the big oven. It is proving itself to be a little faster then a conventional oven, but I don't buy the way B&D counts lack of pre-heating a time saved. Preheating time is almost always "Prep-Time". It is a considerable time-saver with frozen food however, if you discount thawing time. I have used it for frozen chicken breasts, and their claims hold up on that one. Be a little patient with it, and expect to have to alter your cooking times somewhat. I would say it seems to cut baking/roasting times by maybe 20%. It does do an EXCELLENT job of browning/crisping. A plate of perfectly toasted nachos takes less than two minutes. My toaster is now a paperweight, and my microwave works part time, because for re-heating leftovers, this thing kicks butt. I was leary of buying this because of some reviews about how hot the unit gets, but I find it negligable. It sits right next to my range, and even after an hour of nearly continuous use, wont kick the exhaust fan on. (my conventional oven will kick it on after a half hour or so) It does smell a little bit when you first use it, it goes away after the first couple of times you use it. I guess some people are more sensitive than others. All in all, if you posess a little common sense, read a little bit first, and aren't in need of culinary miracles, you'll be quite pleased with this countertop oven.

Great Oven
Date: 2008-10-18 | Rating: 5
The stainless infrawave oven I recently purchased looks exactly like this one but the model number is FC150R. Model FC150R works great. I use it for everything from toast to re-heating to baking and broiling. If you are only a family of two, you won't need to use a large oven again. I only use my large oven for keeping foods warm. Model FC150R is fast, efficient, and fun to use.

I love this toaster oven. I love it so much, this is my second one. Yes, I believe I wore the last one out but only the control switch~maybe B&D should make replacements for that but they don't. So why the hype? Pre-heating, gone. Hot house, gone. Waiting to eat after long work day, gone & the biggy, electric bill, lowered!!! If you're a family of one or two, you dont need a conventional oven again. If your family is bigger, you need to cook infra red to save time. Just use the conversion setting, add a couple minutes for good measure and you're ready to eat in half the cooking time. This oven is very versatile & easy to use. It's my latest 'must have' to an easier life!

Best toaster oven ever!!

THis toaster (actually my second), is the best ever. Once you have had this one with it's very fast toaster and re-heat cycles, you will have no patience for the never ending regular toasters cycles. Very, very fast and efficient. Amazon's prices were the best!!

Very good product
Date: 2009-06-02 | Rating: 5
This machine does so much more than what I thought. I havent really used it a whole lot since I bought it but I have. Burnt chicken in it a few times so you really have to mess with the time cook. But other than that its great. You can bake a cake in it and sooo much more. I would tell anyone that is looking for a toaster oven to buy one of these.

Great little oven if you understand how to use it.
Date: 2009-02-19 | Rating: 4
I also have the FC150R and it looks identical to this. Paid $70 locally. If you think this will replace your oven or your microwave, you're wrong. It will replace your toaster oven. It does one heck of a job of that, though. I've found that cooking frozen meat items in this thing sometimes leads to burning the tops. I'm trying to learn the settings better and hopefully will adjust for this in the future. Otherwise I've read covering with aluminum foil will prevent the IR waves from burning the top. It's a new way of cooking, so you have to learn how to work with it. Anything I've cooked that was defrosted cooked up nicely. Thorough heating, crispy or browned outside. The advertising will tell you its the next great thing and you don't need an oven anymore. Well, not so much. I still use my regular oven to bake things. I use a Microwave/Convection Oven combo to cook frozen foods, etc... (convection is perfect for those) We bought this to replace our ailing toaster oven. Seems like these days they fall into this price range, anyway. This one had better features than the rest. This oven heats up immediately and cooks FAST. Once you learn how to work it right, it is wonderful. Be prepared to burn some stuff in the beginning. If you keep in mind it will act like a toaster oven on steroids, you'll be fine.

THIS Black & Decker Works!
Date: 2009-11-11 | Rating: 5
I purchased this B&D from Target: Black & Decker 6-Slice Countertop Convection Toast-R-Ovens Read my review. It was an inferior product. THIS one, on the other hand was very good. Door closed all the way. No guessing when my toast will be done. Stainless steel frame. Digital readout is a bit dim, though. But has cooked toast, pizza, reheated things without a hitch. Have not tried BAKE function yet. If it holds up longer than the other B&D (6 month life), it will be a winnner!

cooks uneven readout a joke

You have to turn the pizza or it will burn in 1 spot. The readout is a joke and the on/off light makes it almost impossible to read

I found this to be "hands down" , the best toaster oven in this price range, and I've owned a few over the years.

Expected better from B & D
Date: 2009-02-26 | Rating: 3
We purchased this toaster for the name of Black and Decker, and its solid reputation! This toaster oven was purchased almost 2 years ago. The knob fell off, and the rubber feet on the underside also fell out. We simply replaced it for the same model. No problems whatsoever with the new one, except the rubber feet kept falling off. About 6 months ago, the top heating element stopped working. We have been using it as is, but once again we are in the market for a new toaster oven. I would like to mention we have been using B & D toaster ovens for over 20 years; the very first one lasted over 11 years.I expect Black and Decker products to be faultless, and to last a lifetime. Over time, I have seen B & D using cheaper parts ie, the knobs will be poorly made, handle not as sturdy, something else falling off, poor construction.

could be a heater
Date: 2009-08-09 | Rating: 3
Just bought one. Nice size, nice looks, has what I am looking for. Crumb tray pulls out from the bottom. Tray hooks worked fine to pull out tray a bit... other reviewer must have gotten a defective one. Toasting seemed to take a while, warm-up of leftovers was fine. Seems to have plenty of heat for baking. Small outward curve in the back seems to be designed to accomodate small pizza or round pan. Clever! However, I will probably be returning the unit because the amount of heat pouring from the oven was more than a space-heater... it could heat my apartment... or at least the kitchen. Maybe this is normal, my other toaster oven was a 2 slicer small one. But I don't want to heat my kitchen and I worry about it getting too hot, plus increase in electricty costs. I will probably pass on this one. Or buy some hot pads... too bad because it looks like a good unit and it seems to be working fine. Got it for good price at target. If you don't mind a hot unit, it looks good.

So far so good
Date: 2009-06-06 | Rating: 3
Nice, good looking toaster. Does all of your basic functions but it doesn't brown my toast as even as I would like. As far as some of the other concerns of things breaking or falling off the unit, well I guess I'll have to wait and see if that happens to me

Product description wrong
Date: 2009-03-11 | Rating: 3
My main comment is that the product description (here on Amazon) is wrong. It actually lists two different dimensions, and both are wrong. The toaster oven is smaller than this says. [Not only that, it says the unit weighs 11 lbs, but the shipping weighs only 10 lbs, so you know something is off] The small size is not a problem for me, but if I had read this description first, I would not have purchased the oven because I would have thought it was too big for my space. So just a heads up!

I am very impressed with the Infrawave Oven by Black & Decker. I was watching TV and saw the commercial for the item. reduces cooking time
Date: 2009-03-01 | Rating: 4
this product reduces cooking time by eliminating preheating. the foods turn out exactly as if you used your full sized oven. this oven is great for fast foods. i.e. pizza, toast, bagels, reheat leftovers. it is also ideal because it does not heat up your kitchen like a traditional oven does. i recommend this product.

Cooking Times way off
Date: 2010-01-31 | Rating: 4
I purchased the model 150 for my parents over a year ago and it works great for frozen biscuits other frozen quick foods. I recently purchased the larger FC350 to replace my counter top convection/rotisserie oven. I first cooked a 4lb beef roast that came turned out good and haven't tried the rotisserie yet. The oven works great for pizza's, croquets, pizza rolls etc. Be prepared to increase the cooking times, the preset times are way off. If the box says 22mins, it's going to take at least 22 minutes. The real savings is the whole house doesn't get hot and there is no pre-heating. I live in South Florida and don't know if the high humidity has anything to do with the big difference in cooking times. I am very happy with the ovens results, just wish the company didn't mislead every one with expected savings in actual cooking time. I'd like to see a forum with real recipes from actual users.

There is a reason most recipes are with frozen food...
Date: 2008-08-16 | Rating: 3
This oven only does slightly better than a typical rotisserie or toaster type oven. If you are broiling a steak, unless you like your meat well done, you should start with frozen meat in order to get a browned surface with a pink center. The recipe book that comes with it only has a few examples and the pre-programed selections do not accomplish a proper product without adjustments to the time. It has a setting for rising crust pizza (like DiJourno) which starts with 14 minutes. A regular oven is 22 to 25 minutes. At 14 minutes, the pizza had risen but the crust was still very soft and the cheese was not even browned at all. I added time, and ended up at over 20 minutes with a pizza that was too soft and floppy. The same with frozen french fries. I expected a web site that would give more direction in how to use the oven but all the B & D web site has is the recipe book in pdf form. As far as the rotisserie, the oven is not really big enough to even accomodate a medium sized chicken. I did do a small pork roast which came out nicely done. But it had to be a small roast to not touch the element guards. For the price, I was rather disappointed.

NOT Quicker
Date: 2010-01-09 | Rating: 3
The unit functions adequately, in that it does cook things, but it falls far short of its major selling point which is that it is suppose to cook faster. Black & Decker went so far as to equip the oven with a `smart' timer which takes the conventional cook times and automatically shorten those cook times to what they claim is the oven's faster cook rate. This has actually become an annoyance in that we enter a cook time of 1 hour, then the oven translates that to 45 min and we have to go back and add the 15 min to adequately cook the item. In time we will learn to counter this conversion in our head, but we shouldn't have to. I have yet to study if there is any electric savings.

Toaster Review
Date: 2008-03-03 | Rating: 5
I really like the bagle toasting feature. Regular bread is toasted a little slower than other toasters I have had.

it works, but man, it's like all plastic
Date: 2009-12-29 | Rating: 3
OK, it toasts, so it works as advertised. But the fact that the toaster is almost entirely lightweight plastic - except for the heating cage and the crumb tray - gives this the feel of a disposable product. I get that toasters aren't going to last forever, but there is something to be said for having a solid build-quality with durable-feeling materials. If this baby should meet the floor, the floor is going to win - I mean, a geriatric hip has more strength than this. However, if you are going on a long hike and want to bring a toaster and not be weighed down by a heavy item, this is the toaster for you. I bought this online; if I had gotten my hands on it in person at a retail chain I would have opted for another model.

This was a bad choice...
Date: 2008-12-15 | Rating: 1
I bought this item at a local store in mid-September. Three months later, the baskets no longer depress/close around the bread and so the toasting mechanism doesn't engage (and I get no toast)! It hasn't been heavily used (once or twice/week) or abused...the company is willing to send me a new one if I send them the plug and a check for shipping and handling, but that raises the price I paid for the thing to the point of "why didn't I just buy the more expensive one in the first place?" We have a 20-year old Toastmaster that I was replacing for the sake of my bagel fitting in the slot. Fortunately I didn't throw out the old Toastmaster! This toaster was not worth ANY stars but that doesn't seem to be a choice!

Does a fine job
Date: 2008-10-21 | Rating: 5
I was pretty frightened to try this toaster, but I had one several years ago and after trying a much more expensive model that took at least 10 minutes to toast bread, I decided to try it, despite all the bad reviews. And for $40, what more do you want? The oven does indeed turn off when the bell rings and can toast frozen bread in about 5 minutes, slower than a regular toaster, but much faster than the high end countertop oven that I tried. I waited about a month to write this review, because I was expecting to see flames coming from the unit, but so far it's been fine. I've used this to reheat pork chops and steak and it has worked quite well and I really like the hooks that pull the rack out about an inch when the door is opened.

Love this little toaster oven

I can see that I'm the only one here so far that has NO problem with this toaster oven.Wow Can I be that lucky!! I just bought this at Lowes for $29.99. Everything toasted perfectly even, and I have to say , I was surprised it worked that good. The Bell went off with a Ding at the end of toasting, and the toaster turned off. I gave this a trial run, and I made english muffens, Garlic bread, and those tasty round breads from Costco. Everything toasted very even. I had this toaster years ago, and never had a problem with it either.I don't know what happened to it though! This is actually nice looking. Not as big as other toaster ovens.(I wanted a small one) I did like that when you open the door the rack comes out a bit. To get the bread out, I just put a plate under the rack and take a fork and move it onto the plate, Or use tongs. Not a big deal. Don't put your fingers inside it's HOT. Duh. I only bought this to make garlic bread for a couple of people, so I would not have to turn my oven Broiler on. I have a $400.00 hand made English Rowlett profesional toaster for 4 pieces of bread. It looks great, but I have to say, I think this toasted just as even! This toaster oven does take longer to toast. I won't leave this sitting on my counter. I don't like allot stuff like this sitting out, and I don't plan on using it very oven. But its not bad looking..It looks like stainless. So far I cannot complain. If something happens with this, I will be back to review it again.

I bought this toaster oven as a gift for my daughter and she loves it. She wanted something simple and not too large for her kitchen and this fits the bill. She said it works great and is sooo easy to use. So I guess it would be HIGHLY recommended!!!

Surprisingly good toaster oven

It seems that the perfect toaster oven does not exist. Before purchasing this Black & Decker toaster oven I did quite a bit of research on all toaster ovens costing less than $125. Nearly all had a few very disappointed reviewers; none had a very high composite score from a large number of reviewers. I had been reasonably happy with a DeLonghi Model 400 (4-slice toaster oven), though like most toaster ovens it did not toast bread evenly. It died after four years. After 3 weeks of use by my family (used at least twice a day, every day) I can report that this Black & Decker works as well as one can reasonably expect from a toaster oven. It toasts bread and bagels fairly evenly, and the oven temperature seems to be fairly accurate. The 30-minute analog timer for the oven is a useful feature. I have rated this as a "4" instead of a "5" because the interior space (and oven bake pan) would be more useful if slightly bigger. But the benefit of the reduced volume is a small footprint on a crowded kitchen counter.

Happy so far.

Black & Decker toaster oven I have only had this product for 6 weeks but so far I find it very satisfactory. I would like it even more if the timer control was on top and the temperature control on the bottom so it would be easier to see the timer without bending over.

The best toaster I have ever bought! Use it in an apartment and it works perfectly! Cooks anything thawed or frozen or fresh; bagel, toast, english muffin, muffin... anything you name it the best! Highly Recommended

Perfection in a toaster!

I finally have a toaster even my husband can use! We do not have to have separate toasters for my english muffins, my son's waffles, & my husband's toast. Each setting does EXACTLY what is stated. This toaster takes a little longer to toast but toasts very evenly which is another plus in regard to other toasters. This product is fairly easy to clean. Black & Decker has always been a good brand but this one is the best yet! This puts the company in a more favorable position for my next purchases of household appliances (indoor or outdoor.) I highly recommend this product, however, make sure you have space as it is a fairly large toaster.

A+++++

This toaster is wonderful! The slots are even big enough for thick slices of homemade bread. When my much-used old toaster died, I checked out many other brands and decided on this Black & Decker, and I could not be more satisfied.

The Toaster looks really great, has options for bagels and frozen items. Works great, best toaster I had so far . Only negative I found is electrical cord (less than 2 feet) which cheapens this product! Openings are wide enough for bagels and has two adjustable controls. After one month of service, superb product.

Easy Cooking/Heating
Date: 2009-10-14 | Rating: 5
Just bought this and love it. We're a family of only 3 and it more than suffices. Haven't used as convection yet but oven and toasting is a breeze. Minor adjusting time and temp as presets are automatic.I haven't really had to adjust anyway. Using it for breakfast and dinners. Not home for lunch otherwise would probably be using it for that. Great for my sons snacks after school. Won't be using my standard oven until the holidays when I have lots of people over. Wasn't the oven I was originally looking for but thankfully, this was in stock and cheaper as a perk. I paid $59.99 on sale. Well made with Black and Decker name to boot. Only con is it does get hot on the outside, just don't touch it! It was a great day!

great toaster oven

I searched for a long time before buying this, it is great for heating up anything, we barely ever turn on our big oven now! the only problem is that the rotisserie is worthless! chickens dont come small enough to fit, plus the skewer pops out and doesnt spin! this is a great toaster oven but dont buy it for the rotisserie!

Nice toaster - great value
Date: 2009-01-11 | Rating: 5
I read lots and lots of reviews of toaster ovens before I bought. But it seems that very few people out there like the toaster oven they have. The ones with the highest ratings were only available online - and in some cases the shipping was almost as much as the toaster! I got this one at a local store - on sale. It is a nice compact size for the counter, yet seems to have plenty of space inside. Toasts very even (several settings - chose medium the first time and worked perfect). It has a timer so there is a bell when the toast is finished. I also like the fact that when you use the oven, you also can set a timer. My previous one did not have this and many times I would forget to shut it off and it would run for hours (very dangerous). I am very pleased with this toaster oven overall -- it does the job it is supposed to and is a great value for the money.

works great for me!
Date: 2009-08-06 | Rating: 5
I was a little worried about getting a "low end" appliance like this, but it does everything I need to. Keep in mind that I'm no chef, but this thing works great, in my opinion. Cooks frozen meals, heats things up, does toast, etc. If you're serious about cooking, this probably wouldn't work for you. Works for a "bachelor pad" application though, which is why I use it for.

SO FAR SO GOOD
Date: 2008-07-29 | Rating: 4
I've been using this model for a year now and am quite satisfied. I love the convex glass making it much more functional. I've had many toaster ovens over the past 40 years and have come to expect a certain lifespan. I do see that with this oven the upper heating element has been redesigned and your less likely to hit it and cause it to be useless. SO FAR SO GOOD. The integrity of the unit is good. Still looks bright and fresh. I do notice when I'm toasting 4 slices of bread steam/smoke leaks from the lower right corner of the door. Doesn't seem to be a dangerous condition. Toasts pretty well takes a tad longer than regular toaster. I'm satisfied. Bought it at Kohl's on sale at very good price and am watching for the next sale to buy a spare. But that's just me. I recomment this toaster oven.

Good enough
Date: 2009-06-08 | Rating: 4
Like one of the other reviewers, I purchased this model to replace an old B&D "under-the-shelf" model. My only complaint about this new model is that it's bigger and more awkward than my old one was, and than it needs to be. I also wish the directions were a little more "intuitive," so that guests could use it without needing to consult the manual. On the bright side, I think the new one toasts a little better than the older model. So far, unlike some of the other reviewers, my toast has not caught fire, although now I'm a little worried about that! (Those reviews were not available when I ordered this model or I never would have bought it, I just hope the other reviewers were the exception and not the rule!)

I bought this toaster oven so that I would not have to heat the oven for one or two items. The oven bakes very well however, I have not mastered the broil part yet, seem to burn things. I wish I had bought a larger one that would fit a pizza. I use Home Run Pizza's small pizza & this works fine in this toaster oven. However any larger pizza would not work.

Have Same Toaster Oven but in Black
Date: 2009-07-16 | Rating: 5
I have the exact same toaster oven except it is not stainless steel, but in black at a substantially lower price. A correction on the info, the timer goes to 60 minutes not 120. I do NOT use mine to make toast. I have a standard upright toaster for that purpose. Anyone who buys a toaster oven to make toast can expect poor results. This product is meant to be used for baking and broiling. I have used it only for broiling so far and found it to do as good a job as my big range. Chicken, steaks, burgers broil up great and at about the same time it would take it a regular oven. When broiling use the top position with the rack facing upwards, getting the food as close to the heating elements as possible without actually touching them. This will insure thorough broiling and quicker cooking. Again, this all depends on what your broiling. I did use once for cooking a frozen pizza and the convection feature seemed to make the cooking of the pizza more even. Highly recommended. A good value for the price.

It does a good job
Date: 2009-02-17 | Rating: 4
We bought this toaster about two months ago, after much research. Our old one was a simple, cheap one from Sunbeam, which lasted about ten years until the lever for toast broke. I never really wanted a "convection" toaster, but I decided to give it a try because I thought it might save energy when baking. It actually does a very fast job at that, much more efficient than the regular oven we used before. I used the broiler just once so far and it works well. Toast is very good: crunchy on the outside, moist inside (but that depends on taste). One gripe is with the knobs, which are hard to grab. The design of the knob is especially annoying in the timer, because it just sort of slides to the desired time, there's no way of precisely selecting the position, like a good stereo knob would. We haven't quite found the best spot on the timer for the perfect toast, I'm having to rely on visual clues and often just take the toast out before the timer rings. The tray is easy to clean and slides out conveniently. The hooks on the door hinges that make the rack slide out make it difficult to close the door completely - we decided to fold ours in and not use them, so the door closes correctly. Be diligent when shopping for this item, prices vary widely from place to place and you may overpay.

Better than expected
Date: 2009-10-14 | Rating: 4
I've been using this oven for over 2 months now,so far so good. For a 6 slice oven its a good size, not too big.The crumb tray slides out completely, that makes it easy to keep the oven clean. Please take the time to read the manual. It has a couple of good tips about using the oven. The toast function is fast. It does not use convection feature for toasting. I've baked eggplant and butternut squash in it. It takes almost the same time as a normal sized oven, but saves a lot of energy and does a good job. The broil feature works well too. I'm looking forward to baking pizza in it.

It caught fire
Date: 2010-01-08 | Rating: 1
It caught fire while toasting. One minute it was underdone, the next the oven is on fire. Luckily we were right there and had a fire extinguisher in the kitchen. Looking around a bit on consumer sites and I see this is not uncommon. If it had been used more than a few times, I could say it must have been due to debris, but this thing was spotless.

Caught on Fire!
Date: 2010-01-15 | Rating: 1
This oven was relatively new. We threw in a piece of food for a quick snack. Coming back earlier than normal to check on the progress, we found a freakin' fire inside. Mistake was opening the door (to put it out). Flames shot out overhead. Really frightening. Smoke was coming out the vents and the entire inside of the oven was engulfed in flames. Uh.... draw your own conclusions...
